working with me as your illustrator
As a children’s book illustrator, I offer a thoughtful, collaborative illustration process designed to capture the heart of your story. I partner closely with authors and publishers to craft whimsical children’s book illustrations and heartwarming picture book art that connects with young readers and families alike.
itty bitty bio
Deb Johnson is a children’s book illustrator and author living and working in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. She grew up with a love of art and music and never stopped honing her illustrative talents. For over 30 years she has brought memorable, endearing characters to life for children’s publishing. Her work spans picture books, chapter books, board books, activity books, and education markets. She has also created hidden pictures for Highlights Magazine, puzzle pages, and coloring books. Deb is currently developing her own manuscripts for publication.
A digital illustrator, Deb loves bringing color, line, and texture to her work using Procreate, Affinity Studio, and Adobe CC. She is a former Illustrator Coordinator for the Carolinas Region of SCBWI. In addition to illustrating, Deb also works as a graphic designer specializing in publication and book design, marketing, and advertising.
Deb resides with her husband, two pups, and a toothless cat. When she’s not in the studio, you’ll likely find her walking or hiking, hugging family, volunteering, knitting or sewing—all with a cup of coffee close at hand.
